Adler

In 1898 the German cycle company Adlerwerke started the licensed production of the American typewriter Empire. In 1899 the company introduced Adler No.7 and in the next ten years 50 000 machines were sold. The Adler typewriters became one of the most popular European typewriters. Orzel is a Klein Adler typewriter produced in 1923.Orzel was a Polish family name and means and means eagle.

Frolio

This lightweight typewriter is portable. It came onto the market in 1924. To facilitate typing in different languages, it was sold with 20 different typing balls. Frolio was awarded five gold medals in the World Exhibition of 1925 in Paris.

Mignon

This index typewriter was introduced in 1903. Reasonable priced and reliable, Mignon was a popular typewriter with a changeable type and index plate. About 350 000 were manufactured before production ceased in the late 1930s. This red Mignon No.2 with its original leather box is a collector’s piece and was owned by a pharmacist in Turku. The black Mignon model is common.

Noiseless Office Model

Although a patent for a noiseless typewriter was granted in 1896, the manufacture of the Noiseless typewriter began in 1912. The first 500 typewriters were sold in 1915 and the office model was introduced in 1921. The company was bought by Remington in 1924, when the typewriter was marketed as Remington Noiseless No.6. Production ceased in 1950.

Olympia

Olympia was manufactured by the renown German company AEG. The production of the original AEG typewriter began in 1921. In 1930, the typewriter was renamed Olympia. The company was also renamed Olympia in 1936 and later became one of the leading manufacturers of typewriters in Europe.

Remington

Remington began as an arms manufacturer but was soon looking for alternative products. It bought a manufacturing contarct for a typewriter and the first typewriter was manufactured in 1874. Remington was the first mass-produced typewriter. At the Philadelphia Exhibition in 1876 the Remington typewriter aroused little interest. Remington No.2 was introduced in 1878. This model had the shift mechanism. Remington typewriters became one of the leading typewriters in the world.

Typewriters for Blind

The first working typewriter for the blind was built in 1808 by the Italian Pellegrino. Many inventors both in Europe and USA designed typewriters for the blind, but only a few were made. The firts successful typewriter to be produced was the "writing ball" of the Danish pastor Malling Hansen. His first typewriter was made in 1867/1868 later to be followed with new models. Soon after his typewriter other manufacturers came on the market.
