Zvrojovka Brno was established as an arms factory in 1918. Its production gradually grew into other sectors: telephones, instruments for railroad workshops and other tools etc. Before World War II the company became one of the largest producers of rifles in the world. In the 1980th the company mainly produced office and computing equipment. ZETA typewriter was introduced in 1949. Later the name was changed to Consul.
