Hall was the first index typewriter on the market. These typewriters do not have a keyboard. By a pointer the letter is picked from and index. Hall was developed in 1860s by Thomas Hall and came on the market in 1881. The Salem model was the second model on the market. The Hall is built into a walnut case. Index typewriters were much cheaper than keyboard typewriters. A portable was also produced. Hall was a popular typewriter and is therefore not a rarity. However, it is sought after by museums and collectors. Information about the volume of production is not available. Hall was also used by blind people.
