Royal McBee Corporation, New York, USA
Royal was developed by E.B Hess. He was awarded 140 typewriter related patents. The first Royal typewriter was introduced in 1906.The first models differed from the other office typewriters in their design. Royal had a low profile compared with the high design of other typewriters. In 1926 Royal introduced a portable typewriter. Royal was a successful typewriter produced in millions. Because of its durability it was a popular typewriter in Finnish business colleges. The company was bought in late 1970s by Litton Industries. Manufacture under the name Royal ceased. Litton Industries was later bought by Olivetti.
